BREMELANOTIDE (PT-141) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of α-MSH and an agonist at melanocortin receptors, with highest activity at MC4R and MC3R. Structurally it is closely related to Melanotan II, differing in its free C-terminal carboxylic acid.
Research Background
The cyclic lactam bridge between aspartic acid and lysine constrains the His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp pharmacophore in a receptor-active conformation and improves metabolic stability. Research has centred on central melanocortin pathways in the hypothalamus and their influence on behaviour and autonomic function.
