Product Overview
Scientific profile
GHK-CU is the copper(II) complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine. GHK was first isolated from human plasma by Pickart and Thaler in 1973 and binds Cu²⁺ with high affinity through the histidine imidazole, the glycine amino group and the deprotonated amide nitrogen of the Gly–His peptide bond.
Research Background
GHK concentrations in plasma decline with age, which prompted extensive investigation of the copper complex in connective-tissue biology. In fibroblast culture it has been reported to stimulate synthesis of collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans and to modulate metalloproteinase activity. Gene-expression analyses (Broad Institute Connectivity Map) suggest GHK influences a large number of human genes linked to tissue remodelling and antioxidant defence.
Areas of Investigation
- Extracellular-matrix synthesis and remodelling in dermal fibroblast models
- Wound-healing and angiogenesis assays
- Copper transport, bioavailability and redox biology
- Gene-expression profiling of tissue-repair pathways
Analytical Profile
Characteristic blue to violet lyophilized solid. Purity determined by HPLC; identity of the GHK ligand confirmed by mass spectrometry. Hygroscopic — keep tightly sealed and desiccated.
