KISSPEPTIN-10 is the C-terminal decapeptide (residues 45–54) of kisspeptin-54 (metastin), the product of the KISS1 gene. It contains the conserved RF-amide motif and acts as a potent full agonist of the kisspeptin receptor KISS1R (GPR54).
Research Background
KISS1 was first characterised as a metastasis-suppressor gene in melanoma. The discovery that loss-of-function mutations in GPR54 cause hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (2003) established kisspeptin signalling as a master regulator of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons and of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis.
